Ivan, a member of Team Singapore Motorsports, is one of two drivers to race under the banner of Team TYREPAC Goodyear. Born and bred in Singapore, he is the only official Team Singapore member to compete in drifting competitions regionally and in North America. Ivan is also the first Southeast Asian to be issued a professional drifting licence in the US with only 50 such licences issued annually to top finishers in affiliated drifting competitions.
Standing at 1.85m tall, Ivan sports your boy-next-door good looks and has often been mistaken for Japanese. However, he is truly not far from being "Japanese" as his passion lies in drifting - a motor sport that originated from Japan.
To pursue his love for drifting, Ivan headed to Japan in 2005 to train under Ken Nomura who is one of Japan's most celebrated drift drivers. Following that, he returned to Singapore and joined Team Goodyear Binter in 2007. In 2008, Ivan was Singapore's top competitor, finishing in 10th position at the inaugural Formula Drift Singapore.
In that same year, he made his maiden foray into Formula Drift USA at Round 7 of the series at Irwindale Speedway in Los Angeles. Ivan qualified in 24th position out of a field of 32 professionals who were seasoned competitors and more experienced than him. Last year, he returned to the US to take part in the Long Beach, LA leg, in his bid to gain more experience at the highest level.
Due to compete at the Formula Drift Singapore 2010 next month, along with the events in Thailand and Malaysia as part of the Formula Drift Asia Series, much is expected of Ivan to do Singapore proud in the sport of drifting.
